Considered the finest horseback warriors in history, the Comanche Indians ruled the Great Plains. They stopped the Spanish from coming north of Mexico. The Apache and other Plains Indians feared them. Until the buffalo were slaughtered and the Texas Rangers and United States Army killed or drove them onto reservations, they blocked American settlers from moving into Texas and Colorado. But Quanah Parker, their last great chief, led a small band of resistors for years until his warriors were nearly all dead.
